Jodi Kincaid

Since childhood I have been inspired by the natural world. The way the sky looks at twilight, the textures of river rocks and sea shells in my hands, the blue green of sea water. There are endless textures and colors! I am blessed to live in the Pacific Northwest where there is infinite inspiration. Our rivers, lakes, and especially the stunning coastline inspire me the most. There is just something about water for me!

As a native Californian I grew up climbing around in the tide pools and body surfing in the waves-always wanting to be one with sea. It was and is endlessly fascinating to me. When I was a little older my family moved to the desert-thankfully near a lake. I loved jumping off the boat, sinking into the deep blue water, and being completely saturated by all it’s glory. Being in nature brings on a visceral feeling for me. Our souls need the wild!

My painting style is very heart centered. It’s intuitive and expressive-purposely avoiding expectation about the end result. It allows me to loosen up and connect body and soul. I generally work in acrylics and inks. I love the textures that can be made with a simple palette knife! Multiple layers, marks, and textures add a feeling of discovery and history to both landscapes and abstract works. I am ever hopeful that my art moves you the viewer to want connect with nature in your own way. This being the highest compliment.
